The royal wedding in London enhances Eurotunnel’s traffic
Eurotunnel’s Le Shuttle, which is the quickest, most reliable and the easiest way of travelling between France and the UK, is benefitting from a temporary uplift in its traffic resulting from the royal wedding taking place in London today.
The number of cars carried by Eurotunnel’s Shuttles rose yesterday to 6,936, which is 22% more than anticipated and the number of bookings for cars has increased by 43% for Saturday 30 April in the direction Calais -Folkestone, whilst traffic from Folkestone to Calais increased by 73% today with over 8,000 bookings. Many travellers are going to the UK and, at the same time, many English people are taking advantage of their bank holidays to visit the Continent.
Furthermore, our customer Eurostar which uses the Tunnel, has announced that it has recorded a 30% increase in reservations on the occasion of the royal wedding compared to the same weekend last year.
Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel’s Commercial Director, said
“Eurotunnel has always accompanied the UK, and France, in its happy events and celebrations; this royal wedding is a historic event for the British nation. We are happy to help tourists share in this event, by carrying them across the Channel in only 35 minutes”.
It is estimated that about 1.1 million people will go to London for the royal wedding.
