New Channel Tunnel traffic record set during Easter Weekend
Le Shuttle, Eurotunnel’s cross-Channel car carrying service, has set a new traffic record. On Good Friday, 29 March, 10,646 vehicles (cars, motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, caravans and campervans) and 131 coaches crossed the Channel from Folkestone to Calais, making this the highest volume of traffic ever carried in one direction, since the opening of the Channel Tunnel. The previous record, set on 1 June 2012 with 10,380 vehicles, was soundly beaten.
Overall, 14,250 vehicles travelled through the Tunnel on Friday 29 March (both directions). The Eurotunnel Group expects to see further high levels of traffic for the British Easter holiday returns on 6-7 April and on 13-14 April, which is also the start of the French school holidays, and a time when many French families will be setting off for short breaks in the UK.
This new record is once again testimony to the efficiency of Le Shuttle and to the loyalty our customers have for a transport system that is both easy to use and respectful of the environment.
