GB Railfreight supports new HS2 hub at Crewe

In response to 'HS2 Plus', a report published today by HS2 Ltd's Chairman David Higgins, John Smith, Managing Director of GB Railfreight, said: 

“GB Railfreight welcomes today’s announcement from Sir David Higgins, Chairman of HS2 Ltd, as an important step towards maximising the freight potential from HS2. 

“The recommendation that phase 1 for HS2 now extends to a new hub at Crewe has the potential to open up routes for freight trains on the existing network. 

““This extension avoids some of the bottlenecks that could’ve occurred on the classic network as a result of the original phase 1 proposals. 

“This is good news for the rail freight industry and good news for the UK economy, and I look forward to working with HS2 Ltd to make the most of the opportunity that this presents for the rail freight industry.”
