Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Named “Most Environmentally Friendly Carrier” by German Magazine, BusPlaner
Eurotunnel has been named “Most Environmentally Friendly Carrier” at an awards ceremony dedicated to sustainable development and sponsored by German magazine BusPlaner. The award ceremony, held in Munich on 20 November, was attended by 300 people.
During the ceremony, held at the Munich Museum of Public Transport, MVG, the magazine, BusPlaner, a reference in the coach and tourist trade in Germany, recognised Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, which was participating for the first time in the “Carriers” category, as “Most Environmentally Friendly Carrier”, on the basis of ecological, economic and social responsibility criteria. The award, decided by a jury of transport and travel specialists is recognition for Eurotunnel Le Shuttle’s commitment to provide the fastest and most environmentally friendly way to cross the Channel. This award is proof again that Le Shuttle provides a remarkable service both in quantity, 64,000 coaches (+9%) travelled through the Tunnel in 2013, as well as in quality. Already a holder of the Carbon Trust Certificate, Eurotunnel continues to explore ways to reduce its carbon footprint. One example is changing 14,200 light bulbs for LEDs on the loading ramps, thereby dividing carbon emissions by 5. With a crossing time of just 35 minutes, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle provides up to 5 departures per hour in each direction, on peak days.
Eurotunnel Commercial Director, Jo Willacy, stated
“We are doubly pleased to receive this award as “Most Environmentally Friendly Carrier” because it recognises both our quality of service and the professionalism of our staff, and our constant commitment to sustainable development”.
